It's our annual Souperbowl Food Drive! From January 29 through February 9, we are collecting non-perishable food items for Feeding South Dakota. The grade that brings in the most donations will get to choose between a movie party or a Cloud 9 party. Let's go, Discovery!
Last week during classroom 506’s morning meeting, the class talked about being kind. The conversation led to the class writing a positive note for every Discovery staff member! The note was placed on the staff member’s mailbox. What a kind and heart-felt activity. Thank you, classroom 506 and keep being you!
Is your child starting Kindergarten next year? If so, is he or she on our list? Below is step-by-step on how to register!
STEP 1: Please go to https://www.cognitoforms.com/discoveryelementary/_202425kindergarteninputform and enter your child’s information. This puts your child on our list of incoming kindergartners and gives you an opportunity to tell us about your child. You can also upload required documents at this time.
STEP 2: Below are the required documents that we must have before your child can start school. You can email the documents to DiscoveryRegistration.Sfsd@k12.sd.us or fax them to 605-362-3535.
- Address Verification: The SFSD requires verification of your address. The address verification must be in your (parent/guardian) name, and it must be current. Acceptable documents are: utility bill; rental property lease/contract or payment receipts; property tax payment or receipts; state/Government agency mail; mortgage document; or homeowner’s insurance policy
- Birth Certificate - We have to see the original and then we will make a copy of it.
- Immunizations
STEP 3: Complete the Sioux Falls School District's (SFSD) online registration, which will open on February 1 – you will NOT be able to register until then. We will send a reminder email on February 1, along with the registration link.
STEP 4: Save the date! Please plan on bringing your incoming kindergartner to Kindergarten Open House on Thursday, March 7. More details to come!
Shout-out to these students! While using the book vending machine, an extra book came out. The students turned in the book at the office. Thank you for doing the right thing! As the saying goes, “Do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
A HUGE shoutout to our custodian, Chris! Thank you for keeping our sidewalks clear and safe - we appreciate you!
It's that time! Children who are five years old on or before September 1, 2024, can register for kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year. Below is step-by-step on how to register.
STEP 1: Please go to https://www.cognitoforms.com/.../_202425kindergarteninput... and enter your child’s information - this is not the official registration. This puts your child on our list of incoming kindergartners and gives you an opportunity to tell us about your child. You can also upload required documents at this time.
STEP 2: Below are the required documents that we must have before your child can start school. You can email (photo, scan, etc.) the documents to DiscoveryRegistration.Sfsd@k12.sd.us. This email is only for the use of sending documents - it is not regularly monitored. You can also fax the documents to 605-362-3535.
- Address Verification: The SFSD requires verification of your address. Your student’s online registration will be on hold until proof of address is received. On January 12 and 13, 2024, Jefferson High School will host its 3rd Annual Cavalier Classic Show Choir and Jazz Competition and Fundraiser. This competition is the choir department's largest fundraiser and event of the year! We want to invite future Cavs and their families to join us! Over the past two years our choir program has flourished, and we want to celebrate that with you. We have 29 show choirs competing and we are excited to add a new Unified Division to our show choir competition for students of all abilities!
The Cavalier Classic will host nearly 1,800 students and over 3,500 attendees from SD, MN, and IA throughout the 2-day event. Over 2,000 volunteer hours are given by our students and families to make this event happen. There are many wonderful opportunities for younger Cavs to join us in the future!
We invite you to attend this event and see the extremely talented show choirs in action! There are also opportunities to help with supplies and/or volunteer. Our success depends on the generosity of family, friends, businesses, and community members coming together to promote and encourage choral education among our youth.
Information on dates, times, locations, donations, volunteer opportunities, etc., can be found at https://www.jeffersonchoirs.com/cavalier-classic.html.
Thank you for being a part of our JHS family and we hope to see you on January 12 and/or 13!
In case you missed it, we are getting in the holiday spirit with dress up days this week for all students and staff! Let’s have a holly jolly week!
On Tuesday, Sioux Falls Stampede players visited grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The players introduced themselves, read a book, and answered students’ questions. They also talked about how they have utilized The Explorer Way, while playing hockey. Lastly, they autographed three new books about hockey for our library. Thank you, Stampede!
The Explorer Way: Take care of yourself. Take care of others. Take care of this place.
A huge shoutout and thank you to our PTO! They provided hot chocolate and apple cider for staff today. What a great way to start the day!
Today is a beautiful December day, but we know it can't last forever in South Dakota! Make sure you and your student(s) know how to access Canvas for remote learning when weather that keeps kids home can be predicted in advance.
