Discovery’s Skate Night is tonight from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Skate City has made some changes since the previous Skate Night to improve the entrance process.
- Doors will open at 5:30 pm to help alleviate line traffic. Families can purchase food from the snack bar prior to the start of skating.
- On the flyer that was sent home (and below), there is a QR code to purchase admission ahead of time. There is a separate FAST TRACK line set up in the lobby for those who purchased admission online.
Can’t make it tonight? No problem! We are having another Discovery Skate Night on May 2, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
A huge THANK YOU to University of South Dakota School of Health Sciences for hosting Career Cafe for our 5th grade students! Students had hands-on learning experiences from professionals and adult students about various Health careers.
It’s that time of year! The Annual Update/Registration is open for the 2024-25 school year. If possible, please complete it before the end of the school year. It is very helpful, so we can process as many as we can before the office closes for summer break.
You will review/update your household and contact information. You will also give your student(s) permission to be included in school publications (school pictures, social media, etc.), go on field trips, and be included in other SFSD photos and videos.
SFSD wants your feedback! Our annual parent/guardian survey is now open through Friday, April 19, 2024. Check your email for an active link and share your experiences with us as partners in your child's education! https://survey.k12insight.com/r/6HS2G1

We have some amazing artwork lining our main hallway. Discovery definitely has some future artists!
Classrooms 505 and 506 finished their “Royal Readers” project. Hanging in the hallway was a large crown with staff pictures on it. In the photos, staff were covering their faces with a book. Students had to guess who the staff member was behind the book. The following week, the staff member revealed him/herself and read a book to the class!
It’s pouring rain at Discovery! Today is the last day of the Everybody Reads Campaign. Discovery you did amazing - you read 23,736 books! Even though it’s the end of the campaign, it doesn’t mean you have to stop reading. Remember, “Reading is a passport to countless adventures.” – Mary Pope Osborne.

We appreciate you and are lucky to have you!
Classroom 503 is learning about ecosystems in science. Students planted alfalfa and grass seeds; and built their own terrarium. They’ll be watching the seeds grow for the remainder of the science unit. Great work, 503!
It’s starting to rain at Discovery! So far, students and staff have read 12,157 books for the Everybody Reads campaign!
It’s “March - don't stay - MADness” sponsored by our Student Council! For the next three weeks, students will watch videos about different coping skills and practice those skills with their classmates. At the end of the week, classrooms will vote on which coping skill they like best! Here are the videos for Round 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryWkpa3ja6Q and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6FzAvjp5_s.
From backwards shirts to mismatched shoes, our "Wacky Wednesday" was a success!
Last week, the University of Minnesota Duluth boys’ basketball team visited participating Discovery classrooms as part of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Community Outreach Program.
The players talked about the importance of not only working hard in school but also on the court. They shared how their choices have helped them get to where they are today, all while taking care of themselves and others. Thank you for visiting Discovery; the students enjoyed having you!
With it being Read Across America week, tomorrow is "Wacky Wednesday" at Discovery! Students can wear their best wackiest outfit. We can't wait to see what you come up with!
