The Discovery Day Bash is this Friday, May 19, from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. We know your time is valuable; however, there are still several volunteer spots to fill. The time commitment is minimal (30 minutes) and the jobs are very easy. Please consider volunteering so we can make this a successful event for our students! Your preteen is navigating their first summer without childcare. Older siblings are caring for younger siblings at home and meal preparation is a little too much responsibility. You’ve hired a teenage companion to take your kids to the parks, camps, and activities but this means funds are tight for food.
These are all real scenarios playing out in homes and apartments across Sioux Falls. That’s why the Sioux Falls School District is proud to, once again, offer free breakfasts and lunches to all children, ages 1-18 during June and July 2023.
Using meal counts from previous summers, the Office of Child Nutrition established a schedule for breakfast to be offered at eight schools on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Lunch will be served Mondays through Thursdays at six locations and Monday through Friday at two locations. The schedule will be emailed to SFSD families and will be posted on the District’s website: sf.k12.sd.us. No income eligibility paperwork is required..
In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.

Classroom 302 got to experience what it is like to be paleontologists and dig for fossils (chocolate chips) from their chocolate chip cookies. They used magnifying glasses, tweezers, and brushes to help them extract the fossils. Looks like fun, 302!
In Art class, students are learning how to enlarge logo designs and using glowing, fluorescent paints. Such a neat project, Art teachers! Classroom 504 is currently working on their projects. Classrooms 101 and 102 have already finished their projects - Toucan Sam - and have them displayed in the Art room. Amazing work, Discovery students!
Get ready for summer activities! Today, from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm is the Summer Activities Event at Axtell Park’s Community Engagement Center, which is located at 201 West Avenue 57104.
We have become aware of a scam circulating that appears as if SFSD Child Nutrition Coordinator Gay Anderson is asking people to go out and purchase large dollar amounts of gift cards. Gay has NOT sent out a text or an email. Her communication devices appear to have been hacked. Please delete any communication and do not follow through with the request. We apologize for this inconvenience.
In March, students reached their monthly goal of earning 10,000 compass coins! Since they reached their goal, each classroom got to paint a ceiling tile. Together as a class they decided on a design and started painting! The tiles are placed outside of each classroom in the hallway. Way to go, Discovery!

Classroom K01 got cozy with a PJ Day today! Students earned a PJ Day by meeting their Fun Run fundraiser goal of having all 24 students signed up. With today's weather, what a perfect day for PJ's!
Last week, classroom 501 embraced the beautiful weather by picking up garbage around the exterior of the school. Not only was this in honor of the upcoming Earth Day, but it's also part of the "Explorer Way" by helping to take care of this place.
