Excuse us while we brag for a minute… Our Superintendent is pretty talented! Dr. Jane Stavem is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, trumpet player, French horn player, percussionist, xylophone player… oh, and she also plays harmonica! 😉 These talents, along with her deep love for all things Fine Arts, earned her the honor of Parade Marshal for Festival of Bands 2022! We are proud to be lead by someone who values the role extracurriculars play in “preparing each student to succeed in a changing world!”
Updated breakfast and lunch pricing, how to re-apply for free and reduced meals, who gets low fund balance notifications, and an easy and delicious snack mix recipe to try at home. It's all in the October edition of the "What's the Scoop" newsletter from our Child Nutrition Services!

Discovery students reached our goal of earning 5,000 Compass Coins by September 30! To celebrate, all students are getting a popsicle today! Students earn a Compass Coin when they are caught following the expectations at Discovery, which are:
• Take care of yourself.
• Take care of others.
• Take care of this place.
Way to go Discovery!
Future nurse, Aaliyah, helped Mr. Fischer, Principal, this morning. Mr. Fischer bumped his ankle on his desk. Great job, Aaliyah! You are going to be a wonderful nurse! #WhatIwanttobeWednesday
Next week is Jefferson High School's Homecoming. They are having dress-up days, and Discovery is participating!
With the change in seasons, please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for the weather. Attached are the guidelines that we follow. Keep in mind, the playground does not have any coverage from the wind.
In honor of Constitution Day on September 17, classroom 104 made tricorne hats like the delegates of the 1787 Constitutional Convention would have worn. Students decided whether to sign their names to vote for closing schools to honor Constitution Day - just like the delegates had to decide if they would sign the Constitution. Students looked at the Constitution, learned what each Article explains, and found out there are 27 amendments. Great job on your tricorne hats, classroom 104!
Parenting is hard. So is growing up! Join SFSD and Avera experts as we team up virtually on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm for topics that strengthen families.
Discovery's hallways are getting very colorful!
First, third, and fifth grade students had a hearing screen today. Hearing screens play an important role in identifying students who may have hearing loss, which can put them at risk for poor academic performance.
A presidential dignitary was spotted not only on Jefferson High School’s grounds today, but also on Discovery Elementary School’s grounds! Help this Founding Father cheer on the Cavaliers to victory at tomorrow's President's Bowl game versus Lincoln.
Reminder! There is no school tomorrow, Friday, September 2, and Monday, September 5, for the Labor Day Holiday break. Enjoy the long weekend!
Mark your calendar! There is no school on Friday, September 2, and Monday, September 5, for the Labor Day Holiday Break.
School drop-offs and pick-ups can be messy! Take your time, stay alert, and obey the rules of the road. A safe and orderly process makes the day start and end on a positive note for both students and parents!

If you have questions, please call the office.
A new app for parents of bus-eligible students is coming soon! The FREE Stopfinder app allows parents/guardians/daycare providers to see pick-up and drop-off times, the location of the bus, and other features in a secure app. More information will be coming soon, including an invitation to set up your child's account in Stopfinder. If you are the primary household of a bus-eligible student, please check your email for more information.
